A Letter from the Flag of Suffolk directors

To our valued customers, friends & loyal supporters of The Alderton Swan (the “Swan”).

It is with a heavy heart we announce our intention to close the Swan, at the end of trading hours, on 24th December 2019.

We’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved at the Swan, since we embarked on a nine-month renovation project, at considerable cost, culminating in our grand opening in September 2016. The dedication, hard work and understanding of all our staff, who have worked at the Swan during this time, played a huge part in helping us to try to make our strategy a success. For that, we will be eternally grateful.

Our inspiration and passion for the Alderton Swan project came from our dining experiences around the world. Our shared vision was a desire to replicate those special and unique moments at our own establishment in Suffolk. Therefore, our strategy was to combine the needs of the Alderton community for a local pub, with that of a fine dining, which would attract customers from outside the immediate area and who would travel to the Swan and make it a destination in itself. Regrettably, it has become more and more apparent that this rural location in the heart of the Deben Peninsula is not the right site for us to realise our shared dream and ambitions

On a more positive note, as Flag of Suffolk, we continue to manage the thriving Sorrel Horse in nearby Shottisham, which is open for business as normal. Naturally, we would be delighted to also welcome you here where you will be able to see our familiar faces. Furthermore, we remain desirous to fulfil our vision and will seek to invest in another food & beverage establishment in a more appropriate area of Suffolk.

Our sincere thanks go out to everyone who has supported the Swan during the past three years. Your patronage has been very much appreciated.

With best wishes,

Leila, Gary & Neale
